Jewellery Care Guide

At Melanie Amber, we want your favourite pieces to stay as brilliant as the day they arrived. While our 18K Gold PVD coated and 925 Sterling Silver jewellery is designed for durability, a little extra care goes a long way in preserving its signature glow

The Golden Rule: "Last On, First Off"

To minimise exposure to chemicals and physical wear, your jewellery should be the last thing you put on when getting ready and the first thing you take off at the end of the day.

Caring for Your 18K Gold PVD Pieces

Our PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is highly resistant to tarnishing and water, but it still loves a gentle touch.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Apply perfumes, lotions, and hairsprays before putting on your gold pieces to prevent the coating from dulling over time.
  • Cleaning: For a quick refresh, wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth. For a deeper clean, use lukewarm water and a drop of mild dish soap, then pat completely dry.
  • What to Skip: Avoid abrasive polishing compounds or "dipping" solutions, as these can eventually wear down the PVD layer.
Caring for Your 925 Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is a precious metal that naturally oxidises (tarnishes) when exposed to air and moisture, but this is easily manageable.
  • Wear It Often: Believe it or not, the natural oils in your skin actually help prevent tarnish!.
  • Keep It Dry: Remove your silver pieces before swimming in chlorinated pools, soaking in hot tubs, or showering, as moisture and chemicals accelerate oxidation.

Storage tips for all pieces!

Proper storage is the secret to lasting collection:Individual Pouches: Store each piece separately in the pouch provided to prevent scratching and tangling.

  • Cool & Dry: Keep your jewellery box in a dry area. Avoid storing your pieces in the bathroom, as the humidity can speed up the tarnishing process for silver.
  • Airtight is Best: For long-term storage of sterling silver, placing it in a small airtight bag can help block out the air that causes oxidation
